The Annual Windsor Festival is considered one of the most vibrant, exciting and varied festivals of its kind in the country.

The festival has been bringing a wealth of cultural events to Windsor since 1969. From humble roots, it has grown to encompass everything from a ukulele orchestra to talks from renowned historians, from ghost walks to art exhibitions and much more.

The Windsor Festival team approached Dunk Design in 2011, to see how we could help to unify their designs and work with them to produce detailed, multi-page programmes in what can be quite challenging timescales.

Understanding the variety and complexity of the content being celebrated, Dunk Design set about working with the management team to bring clarity to all messages and event detail in a concise and cost-effective format.

THE PRINCIPALS OF DESIGN

Working with the team to address the challenge of presenting all the necessary detail for visitors to make the most of the festival, we employed the core principals of design.

In doing this we were able to keep production costs down and deliver pragmatic solutions that support the festival’s values.

LEVERAGING FESTIVAL THEMES

Every year starts with a theme – sometimes driven by influential external events; the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee for example, gave Dunk Design the chance to be a little patriotic with the design.

ENGAGING THE AUDIENCE

Working with the marketing strategy set out by the team, we were able to develop materials that helped to directly broaden awareness, support data capture, and were engaging for all kinds of visitors to the event.

Dunk Design was delighted to be awarded the initial project and we’ve developed a strong relationship with the Festival team, continuing to work with them to present day. Visitor numbers have increased and we continue to support marketing efforts to grow awareness and attendance at future events.

Alongside the cultural events, the Festival also runs a School’s Programme – a creative competition for secondary school students in Windsor and the surrounding area. Entrants are encouraged to engage directly with the arts and explore the value of their own creativity, helping them to see beyond the school syllabus and National Curriculum. Dunk Design plays an ongoing design role in supporting this valuable work and developing creative skills in the Windsor and surrounding area.

Since Dunk Design started working with the festival in 2011 we have also gone on to support design materials for Colourscape, in 2015, and have supported a number of other arts and cultural events in the area.
